The Member Spotlight is intended to introduce and promote the work of one of our members to the rest of the Prevent Child Injury membership.
Featured Member: Safe Kids Springfield
Safe Kids Springfield is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations working to prevent unintentional childhood injury, the leading cause of death and disability for children. The coalition began in 1989 and now reaches more than 500,000 people across 10 Missouri counties. Safe Kids Springfield earned the 2007 “Coalition of the Year” award from Safe Kids Worldwide and joined Mercy Hospital in 2008, where it currently resides in the Mercy Injury Prevention Center. Safe Kids Springfield hosts children's bike safety, walking safety, fire prevention programs, child passenger safety training classes, and more to help Missouri families and children stay safer. National Athletic Training Month is held every March in order to spread awareness about the important work of athletic trainers. In addition to providing logos, posters, press releases, sample media alerts and PR toolkits, NATA also sponsors contests for its members. The 2022 slogan is "Providing Health Care Everywhere."

Many people with disabilities have their lives defined for them. The #MoreThanMyBrainInjury campaign gives individuals a chance to overcome those definitions, allowing them to tell their own stories and change the narrative of their lives.

March is National Cheerleading Safety Month. It is an opportunity each year to spread the word about cheerleading safety and an opportunity for us to put a spotlight on the core responsibilities of keeping athletes safe. USA Cheer will utilize media and social channels to highlight a different theme each week of March to reinforce these priorities of athlete protection, skill safety & injury prevention, bullying & hazing prevention, and overall program safety.

Event: Webinar: Safe Use and Administration of Medication to Young Children

Commemorate National Poison Prevention Week by learning about risk and protective factors for poisonings among young children and how these injuries can be prevented. In this webinar, Dan Budnitz, CDC, will use data to describe key characteristics and risk factors for these exposures and errors. Data-driven prevention activities of the CDC-led public-private PROTECT (PRevention of Overdoses and Treatment Errors in Children) Taskforce will illustrate how these emergency visits have changed in the last decade. Dr. Shonna Yin, NYU School of Medicine, will share safe dosing strategies and discuss challenges and opportunities for supporting parents. Mary Leonard, Consumer Healthcare Products Association, will present the evidence-based campaign, Up and Away and Out of Sight, designed to prevent unintentional ingestions among young children, and share the free campaign resources available to providers.
