Monthly Spotlight: Something to Keep Your Eye On!

Resource Spotlight: Fireworks Safety

Summer is the season of outdoor celebrations. While fireworks are commonly used to celebrate summer holidays, they cause thousands of injuries every year. Keep your celebrations memorable, fun, and safer this year by leaving the fireworks to the professionals. According to the National Fire Protection Association, the only safe way to view fireworks is by attending a professional show. Stay in the summer spirit without putting your family at risk with safer alternatives like glow sticks, noise makers, silly string, and summer treats. Click here to learn more!

Happy Pride: Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth

June is a month dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and acknowledging the disparities and challenges they face. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, although "LGBTQ+ youth are coming of age in the setting of increased LGBTQ+ rights and visibility, they remain vulnerable to higher rates of negative mental health outcomes." As parents and caregivers, it's important to let the LGBTQ+ youth in your life know you have their back.

To honor Pride Month, we're connecting our membership with some resources on LGBTQ+ mental health and the role injury prevention can play in the lives of these youth. Check out the following resources to learn more:

Unfortunately, they’re also nearly 40 percent less likely to have an adult in their circle to whom they can turn. Thus, it’s no surprise that they are twice as likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol. Tune into this webinar to learn more about how to support LGBTQIA+ youth.
