July 2022
/Our new toolkit has been posted! While summer rages and thermometers blaze, keeping kids from overheating is a top priority. When children are left in or gain access to cars, temperatures as low as 57 degrees can become deadly in minutes. With higher temperatures occurring more days of the year across the U.S., keeping kids out of hot cars is an important issue for every family. Our new Heatstroke: Kids in Hot Cars toolkit contains a customizable press release, newsletter/blog article, social media posts, graphics, and links to additional resources which provide more information about heatstroke safety.
We're targeting our outreach for the week of July 25-31. If you haven't done so already, please take some time to add heatstroke to your social media and outreach plans for that week.

Reminder: your membership gives you advanced access to the toolkit, so please do not share this link. We'll send a public link on July 18th, which you are free to share with colleagues and friends.
Prevent Child Injury Webinar: How to Ask Others About Guns in Their Home
Thank you to everyone who attended our webinar: How to Ask Others About Guns in Their Home. We were thrilled to have Dr. Lee lead such an impactful conversation with Dr. Culbya, Dr. Eichner, Dr. McFadden, and Julvonnia McDowell of Moms Demand Action. We had over 250 people tune in!
If you weren't able to attend, want to watch the conversation again, or are looking to share the event with others, we now have the webinar uploaded to Prevent Child Injury's YouTube channel. We encourage members to share the link to this webinar with their networks to continue the conversation about #FirearmSafety.
2022 Toolkit Schedule
We are making a change to our 2022 toolkit schedule! To support the new AAP guidelines, our final toolkit of 2022 will be on safe sleep recommendations for infants. The outreach week will be held from October 24-30 to support other national safe sleep initiatives happening that week.
The recalls toolkit that was scheduled to be released in November, with an outreach week of November 14-20, will be moved to the first quarter of 2023. Stay tuned for more information on the release dates of both toolkits.

Event: World Drowning Prevention Day
Hosted by: World Health Organization
Date/Time: July 25, 2022
World Drowning Prevention Day is held annually on 25 July. This global advocacy event serves as an opportunity to highlight the tragic and profound impact of drowning on families and communities and offer life-saving solutions to prevent it. An estimated 236,000 people drown every year, and drowning is among the ten leading causes of death for children and youth aged 1-24 years. More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in rivers, lakes, wells, and domestic water storage vessels in low- and middle-income countries, with children and adolescents in rural areas disproportionately affected. All stakeholders are invited to mark World Drowning Prevention Day – governments, UN agencies, civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, and individuals – by highlighting the need for urgent, coordinated, and multi-sectoral action.
